Plot of the story "SINIGANG"
Liza is cooking Sinigang when her Tita Loleng asks about what happened during her half-brother's burial. Her memory flashes back before her eyes as she answers her Tita's questions. She recalled meeting her stepmother, Sylvia. Sylvia knelt in front of her, sobbing. She expressed regret for what had happened to their family. When her father awoke from his slumber, he spoke to her and told her about her brother Lem. Liza's anger gradually built up and manifested itself through her actions. She cuts the ingredients too forcefully, and Tita Loleng tells her to stop. Memories keep coming back to her. She recalled how happy their family was until they discovered his father had an affair and had a son. Liza was deeply affected since she was a daddy's girl. Her love for him turned into hatred. The only question in her mind was "Why?"
Moral of the Story
Affair is a typical problem in today's relationships. It may be caused by problems such as loss of interest, vengeance, boredom, the pleasure of sexual novelty, and sexual addiction. But, regardless of the cause, having an affair is always bad, especially for married couples. Loving someone entails having trust in and loyalty to their partner.
In the story "SINIGANG", Liza's father failed to be a faithful husband. They were aware of his affair while she was in her second year of high school. Both the father and the stepmother expressed sorrow and remorse for their actions. Liza, on the other hand, is still unwilling to forgive them since what happened ruined her happy life as a kid or as a daughter. She would still have the same happy and full family if her father had not made that mistake. And, despite his father's and her stepmother's remorse, they cannot undo their mistake and the consequences of their actions. Repentance is a must and forgiveness is a choice.
